To prepare a book for the printing house, you should plan to format your book for PostScript, using the LaserWriter II NTX printer driver. You need at least an 040-level Macintosh or a Pentium PC with Windows, along with a true desktop-publishing program. The computer must have at least 16 Mb of memory and a 1 Gb hard drive. The fonts must be Adobe PostScript fonts for correct printing with a PostScript printer.

As long as you develop your book using the hardware and software discussed in this chapter, you can get started on your book. Topics covered in other chapters will make a difference in the appearance of your book, but you can make the changes as you go along. Don’t feel that you must read this entire book before starting your book. Start now!
